Who we are
Chiusa Grossa Farm
Chiusa Grossa Farm
Montalcino
The company nucleus and one of the vineyards are located in the l southern side of the municipality of Montalcino along the local road of Sesta, which connects the hamlet of Sant'Angelo in Colle with that of Castelnuovo dell'Abate, where the other vineyard is located.
Until 1787, the land on which the company stands was part of the estate of S. Angelo in Colle and Montenero, heritage of the Society of Jesus, whose right of dominion was ceded in 1795 by the Ecclesiastical Patrimony to S. Maria della Croce. Subsequently the possessions in the locality of S. Angelo passed first into the hands of the Piccolomini Bellanti and then into those of the Nozzoli family and starting from 1803 to various levellers.
Our cellar was built in 2017 with a project that respects the characteristics and materials of the place. Although the dimensions are small, And equipped with all the necessary tools and machinery to produce and label our wines in the traditional way.
We produce a limited number of bottles a year, working in full respect of the territory and the raw material. The vineyards from which our grapes come are divided into two particularly suitable areas: the Chiusa Grossa vineyard is located on the Sesta road near the hill of Sant'Angelo in Colle at about 400 m above sea level; the Sant'Eugenio vineyard is located in Castelnuovo dell'Abate at about 400 meters above sea level
Among our goals for the near future, in addition to the modernization of the machinery, there is also that of making the cellar energetically self-sufficient through the use of energy from renewable sources.
01
Identity
The microclimate, the inclination of the land, the unpredictability of the seasons characterize each vineyard. The acceptance and enhancement of these uniqueness can be found in the wines we like to make and in the recognition of the diversity of the individual vineyards. We respect the vineyard with an agriculture that while referring to tradition has been able to update itself with particular regard to techniques with low environmental impact; this care is found in the pruning and management of the vineyard, in the manual harvesting of the grapes and finally in the vinification and bottling phase in the property cellar.
Simplicity, as an ideal to be constantly followed, can be found in removing rather than adding and is also found in the graphic elements present in the special editions of our labels, labels that tell about us.
